Circle of Life: The Great Migration Safari

10 Days

Overview

Why Tanzania: This 10-day Tanzania safari and Zanzibar holiday is designed around one of the world’s greatest natural spectacles: the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti. Imagine witnessing over two million wildebeest and zebras crossing vast plains and mighty rivers, while crocodiles lurk in the waters—a once-in-a-lifetime safari event.

Then, take a direct flight from Serengeti (SEU) to Zanzibar (ZNZ) and end your journey with three blissful days on the island’s pristine beaches, spice plantations, and historic Stone Town.

Tour Itinerary

Welcome to Tanzania! Touch down at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR), where you’ll be greeted and transferred to your boutique hotel. Take time to relax before joining your fellow travelers for a warm welcome dinner. Over a delicious meal, our local team will share the Tanzania safari journey ahead, answer your questions, and make sure you’re fully prepared for the unforgettable adventure that begins the following day.

Experience the vibrant pulse of Dar with guided visits to the lively Kariakoo Market, the fascinating National Museum, and a stroll along the bustling waterfront. For a more boutique touch, enjoy a private art and coffee walk through hidden studios or sample local flavors.

Optional Excursion: Escape the city with a boat ride to Mbudya Island, where you can snorkel in turquoise waters and savor a freshly prepared seaside lunch before returning to Dar in the late afternoon.

After breakfast, fly from DAR → Arusha (ARK) and head into the wilds of Tarangire National Park. Famous for its ancient baobabs and huge elephant herds, Tarangire is a true gem. Spend the afternoon on a game drive, where you might spot giraffes stretching high into the treetops or lions resting in the shade. Tonight, enjoy dinner at your boutique safari lodge surrounded by nature.

Today takes you to Lake Manyara National Park, a lush oasis known for its flamingo-filled shores, tree-climbing lions, and hippo pools. After your morning safari, enjoy lunch before an afternoon visit to a Maasai village. Share stories, witness traditional dance, and learn about one of East Africa’s most iconic cultures.

After breakfast, begin your overland journey in a private 4WD safari vehicle, specially designed for comfort, photography, and wildlife viewing, as you travel from Lake Manyara to the legendary Serengeti.

The 4–6 hour drive is a scenic safari in itself, passing rural villages, dramatic landscapes, and occasional wildlife, with plenty of stops along the way to stretch your legs and enjoy lunch. With elevated seating, open hatches, and your expert driver and guide, this is a unique opportunity to experience Tanzania at ground level.

Arrive at the Serengeti by afternoon and head straight into your first game drive across its golden plains before settling into your boutique safari camp.

This is the day you’ve been waiting for: a full-day safari following the Great Wildebeest Migration (seasonal). Witness herds of wildebeest and zebras stretching to the horizon, predators lurking close by, and the raw drama of nature playing out before your eyes. For an unforgettable upgrade, opt for a sunrise hot air balloon safari, floating silently above the plains before enjoying a champagne breakfast in the wild.

Optional Excursion: Begin the morning with a sunrise hot air balloon safari, floating silently above the plains as the sun lights up the horizon. After landing, enjoy a champagne bush breakfast before rejoining the group for game drives.

If you didn’t catch the Great Wildebeest Migration yesterday, today offers another opportunity. With two full days in the Serengeti, we maximize your chances of witnessing this once-in-a-lifetime spectacle. Your expert guide will track the herds and predators based on the latest movement reports, ensuring you’re in the best possible location to see the drama unfold.

For those who already enjoyed the migration, today’s game drives might focus on spotting elusive big cats, elephants at the riverbanks, or even rhinos grazing quietly. In the evening, gather for a bush dinner under the stars, a magical safari tradition that combines fine dining with the sounds of the wild.

Optional Excusion: If weather prevented yesterday’s flight, you’ll have a second chance to join a sunrise hot air balloon safari today, giving you another opportunity to see the Serengeti from above.

This morning, board your direct flight from Serengeti (SEU) to Zanzibar (ZNZ). In just two hours, the endless plains give way to turquoise waters and white-sand beaches. Check in to your boutique beachfront villa, where the afternoon is yours to swim, relax, or sip a cocktail as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean.

Today you’ll explore the island’s rich history and culture. Begin with a guided spice plantation tour, tasting and smelling the cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg that made Zanzibar famous. Then, wander through Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its labyrinth of alleys, ornate doors, and lively bazaars.

Enjoy a relaxed final morning in Zanzibar—whether it’s a last stroll along the beach or a leisurely breakfast with an ocean view. After check-out, you’ll be transferred to Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ) for your onward flight to Dar es Salaam (DAR), connecting with your international journey home.

If you’d like more time on the island, you can extend your stay in Zanzibar for additional days of relaxation, or continue with us to Kenya for another side of East Africa.
